britta balzer
knew already during grade school which path she wanted to pursue professionally. After finishing high school she applied at the renowned Folkwang College in Essen and immediately received one of the six openings. Four years later she completed her studies in the field of music-dance-theatre (vocals, acting, dance) with a master in stage performance.
While she was still studying, she received awards at a talent contest by Saarland Radio, at the independent television RTL-Soundmix-Show (as Barbra Streisand with the song: Secondhand Rose) and at the national singing competition Bundeswettbewerb in Berlin. She gained her first professional musical experience on tour with the piece Happy End, where she played the role of Jane, and at an open-air performance of the musical Hair as Sheila in Tecklenburg. Following her university studies she started a six-year training in classical voice with Kammersänger Anton Metternich in Berlin.
The mother of now, three children, has performed on stage in musicals, plays and operettas. Numerous concerts have taken her throughout Germany and abroad.
Britta Balzer has a remarkable vocal flexibility which allows her to interpret songs from different fields, such as musical and chanson, jazz and rock/pop as well as classical music. This is also the reason why the Bangaluu-Club (Berlin) engaged her as „live showact“ for over one year, where she was affectionally referred to as „Barbra Streisand of Berlin-Mitte“.
Until early 2009 she was on stage with MAMMA MIA! (cover Tanya & Rosie) in Berlin and The music festival Burgfestspiele in Bad Vilbel engaged her for the role of Sally Bowles in the musical Cabaret. She also took part in the 60's revue Minirock & Hitparade.
However, she does not only perform on stage. Her versatility is also reflected in her experience for the last six years as a vocal instructor at the school of dramatics Schauspielschule Charlottenburg, and she directed several projects. For the JuMuTh pilot scheme in Trier she was engaged as director/ choreography lecturer and at the Theaterstadt-Berlin (Pfefferwerk) she was in charge of the vocals/solo department. Furthermore, she can look back on many years of working with children between 3 and 12 with music.
At this year's Jugendmusiziert, a regional music youth competition in Brandenburg (region west) she served as chairperson of the jury for the music-dance-theater section.
